Following the Titan STEAM Inclusion meeting in September a staff development day has been planned for those staff involved in STEAM subject delivery on Monday 4th December, 10am-4pm at Aston University Engineering Academy.
The focus of the session will be the Bloodhound Rocket Car Challenge competition to ensure that staff are better informed and better able to support this STEM competition in their schools.
The Bloodhound SSC is a British supersonic land vehicle currently in development. Its goal is to match or exceed 1,000 miles per hour (1,609 km/h) achieving a new world land speed record. The pencil-shaped car, powered by a jet engine and a rocket engine is designed to reach 1,050 miles per hour (1,690 km/h). The Rocket Car Challenge sees teams of students compete to design, build and race the fastest model rocket car using kits provided by Bloodhound SSC. The fastest 30 teams in the competition will be invited to a national finals.
This staff development session is for staff across the Titan network to fully appreciate the student experience first-hand by building a rocket-car. This practical session will support staff in delivering STEAM subjects in a fun and interactive way whilst also enabling students to take part in a national STEM competition (should your school wish to then enter this.)
The team at Aston University Engineering Academy have kindly agreed to host and run this staff development session. It will take place on Monday 4th December, 10am-4pm at AUEA.
There will be a small cost for this session as we need to cover AUEA staff time and administration of the event. This will be £30 per person.
This staff development session is open to staff from Primary Schools, Secondary Schools, Colleges and Universities.
We can only run this session if there is sufficient appetite and uptake therefore please do let us know by Monday 20th November who from your organisation will be attending. There is a maximum of 30 places on this session therefore we may need to limit the number of places per organisation dependent on uptake.
Please contact us to book your place.
