Every year, Titan host two Careers and Skills Fairs, one for Primary Schools (for students in Year 6) and one for Secondary Schools (for students in Years 7 & 8). The aim of these events is to inspire and motivate young people about the world of work. Students have a unique opportunity to learn more about the wide range of careers available to them and the employability skills they will need to succeed.
Typically, skills and careers activities are delivered to students in Years 10 and 11 but at Titan we like to do things differently. We believe that the process of employer engagement and support should start much earlier. That’s why our Careers and Skills Fairs invite students from Years 6, 7, and 8 to meet employers, attend workshops, and to really begin thinking about their futures.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we were unable to host our Careers and Skills Fairs in 2020. Instead, we created a virtual fair that students could access from home.
“This was a really inspiring day for our students. Most don’t know what they want to do yet so they were really excited to learn about jobs they didn’t know existed. Visually it was so engaging and was really fun and interactive. They loved it!”
Naomi Francis, Learning Mentor, Yew Tree Primary School
“This type of event is so important for the younger generation as they can better understand the skills they need for work and for life in general. This event gave them space to practice some vital communication skills. The kids were fantastic! Street League is proud to support Titan in making a positive difference to the lives of these young people.”
Sabina Yesmin, Outreach Co-ordinator, Street League
“Before I came to the Titan Careers & Skills Fair I thought I wanted to be a Maths Teacher. I love Maths and will definitely want to teach one day however I have learnt there are so many other careers into which Maths can take me, such as a Dentist or Surgeon.”
Holly, Yr7 student, King Solomon International Business School
"The Titan Careers and Skills Fair was just as you would want it... A chance for our younger students to try something they would not normally try. They were able to talk to a wide range of employers and begin building their employability skills of communication, leadership and initiative."
