How Loudmouth Is Responding to Key RSHE Issues in 2025

06 June 25
This has been a busy time for us at Loudmouth. Netflix’s drama, Adolescence has spiked interest in our programmes around online misogyny and we have launched our newest programme, Screen Time on media literacy. We have also entered ‘Puberty Season’ where after SATs many primary schools focus on their Year 6’s education on the physical and emotional changes that take place during puberty. More on all of these later.
There are a few updates that we would like to let members know about. The first is actually a reminder, about the range of material that schools get when they work with us. We can forget to talk about these and so people can assume that all they get when they book Loudmouth is a theatre performance (even if it is a very good one!). Every booking we take comes with access to over 100 lesson plans, a free place on an online teacher training session, materials for parents, video resources and monthly updates. The sessions come in different formats depending on size of group, budget and logistics but they all have some element of workshop where we pull out the key learning, provide an interactive Q&A with the characters and signpost students to further support in and out of school. There is further support for students on our website with links to more information and help. We’re currently working on an edit of a video drama on substance misuse and alcohol that schools will get for free next year as part of their package too. If members would like to know more about these benefits then please get in touch.
So back to Adolescence. I’m sure that you had discussions about this TV drama in your staff rooms. It was a powerful piece of television and raised issues that sadly those of working in RSHE were probably less surprised about than the national press. We had mixed feelings though about the series being made available free to schools. I am sure in some schools it could work well but it takes a long time to watch all of the episodes and I don’t expect that the creators ever expected it to be used as an educational resource. Our Calling it Out programme was created just over three years ago and covers a lot of the same topics and in a way that is designed specifically to work in schools. If any members are looking for ideas about how to address online misogyny or harmful sexual behaviours then get in touch and we can talk you through how Calling it Out could be part of your response to concerns raised in Adolescence.
We are very excited about our latest theatre in education, Screen Time. This was commissioned by Ofcom and has been touring schools in East Birmingham. The programme covers some areas that we have addressed before, such as online safety and respect, as well as new issues such as dis and misinformation and managing smartphones with sleep and wellbeing. The response from pupils, staff and parents has been amazing and we look forward to getting this out to as many schools as possible. It is pitched at Year 6 and Year 7 pupils and comes with a resource for parents to help explain some of the concepts like alogorithms and disinformation, that we can all struggle with, and ideas for continuing discussions with their children at home after the Loudmouth session.
Puberty! This is the time of year when our teams are busy working with Year 6 groups, moving from school to school often delivering two sessions per day of our My Mate Fancies You programme. The programme is a staggering 30 years old this year…although it is updated every year we have changed most of the original scripts mentions of Robbie leaving Take That. At the core of it though it remains the gentle and comic story of two friends as they grow up from 10 to 13. It is in such demand that it I a familiar joke amongst our Actor / Facilitators that it can be exhausting going through puberty twice a day. We have put an extra team onto the programme this year and so if any members would like to find out about how they can use this programme with their Year 6 pupils then we would love to hear from you.
Lastly, a couple of little tips and offers to Titan members. If you would like to book any Loudmouth sessions off the back of this update then we will give you 10% off the cost of any bookings before the end of this academic year. Like many organisations we are going to have to increase our prices due to rising costs. These kick in in September, however, members can beat this rise as any bookings for 25/26 that are booked before the end of term will be at this year’s prices. We hope that this help Titan members to save a bit of money by booking early…and gives them the best choice of dates too.
